Fredricks, Dennis William
1923 – 2025
Passed away peacefully at the Veterans Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on October 18th, at the age of 102.
Born in England in 1923, Dennis was the seventh of thirteen children. At two years old, he crosses the Atlantic with his mother and six siblings to begin a new life in Canada. The family settled in Rosemount (Montreal), where Dennis would live for the rest of his life. From an early age, he worked on a nearby farm after school, proudly giving his earnings to help his mother support their large family. He always admired her strength and courage-qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
At seventeen, Dennis enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers, serving during the Second World War. When he returned home, life led him back to Dorothea ‘‘Dot’’ Sayer, a familiar face from their teenage years when they played baseball together in Rosemount. Their friendship grew into a lifelong partnership, and they married in 1947. Together, they shared 68 years, building a home rooted in love, laughter and family.
Dennis spent many years working at TD Bank and was known for his steady nature and dry wit. He took pride in keeping busy - whether tending to the yard, painting or helping a neighbor - and believed in always doing his part.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dot, loving father of Anne (Tom Wisniewski) and Stephen (Debra Elkin) and dear brother to Barbara. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, October 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the J.A. Guilbault Funeral Home Inc., 5359 St. Michel Blvd. below Masson, Montreal, 514-721-4925. A prayer service will be held on the same day, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Montreal SPCA.
