It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, Ignac Tkalec, aged eighty-six, surrounded by his family.

He was born to Marija (Krampac) and Stefan Tkalec, on January 4, 1936 in Gornja Bistrica, Slovenia.

Survived by the love of his life, wife of 61 years, Ana Gutsmandl, as well as his children and (spouses); Eddie (Monelle), Lydia (Peter) and Sonia (Mike); grandchildren Eric (Amanda), Brian (Alexandra), Daniel, Katerina and Brennen; step-grandson Alex and great-granddaughter Ria, and extended family and friends.

Dad was the last surviving sibling of his family and is pre-deceased by his parents, brother Stefan and sisters Marija and Olga. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 with very little except his suitcase and hope. Life was very difficult at first, looking for employment while not knowing any French or English. He ended up working at the Canadian Copper Refineries (CCR) for 35+ years until his retirement, like many of his Slovenian colleagues who immigrated to Montreal. Through perseverance, hard work and commitment to his family, he lived a long and fruitful life.

The family will receive condolences on Thursday, December 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. (prayer service to be held at 2:30 p.m.) at the J.A. Guilbault Funeral Home Inc., 5359 St. Michel Blvd., Montreal, 514 721-4925.
